My due date is one month from tomorrow. HOORAY.

The past two weeks have been extremely hard on me physically. I never imagined that the simple acts of moving around and going about my day would be so draining. The pain in my pelvis no longer just feels uncomforable. It feels broken. My broken pelvis. My roving tendonitis has popped up in my left arm, and it’s worse than any other tendonitis I have had before. And, I am sorry, but Tylenol sucks. I am up to four pepcid AC’s a day for heartburn. Four. Eating anything immediately makes me sick. And I have outgrown 75% of my maternity clothes. WOW BEING PREGNANT IS SO AWESOME. Don’t even get me started on the heat. Needless to say, I am pretty excited that my due date is only a month away. Also, despite all the crappiness of being pregnant, last week was actually a good week. At 35 weeks, my baby is much lower than my doctor was expecting when he checked at my appointment friday, and he told me that I am 50% effaced. Woooooo. I am crossing my fingers that she will come early. I also got a promotion last week, discovered (thanks Eva!) a new restaurant to eat lunch at downtown (panini w/melted goat and sheep cheese, avocado and pickles? YES please! Or, as Alana called it, “A Pregnant Woman’s Dream”), bought a fabulous pair of sunglasses at Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale (the last thing I needed before Holland arrives. I am now officially ready, expensive accessories in place), Holland started getting the hiccups every single day (highly entertaining) and I started my birth class (also very entertaining and deserving of its own blog entry). Other noteworthy news items from the week of July 13-19 include Flea Infestation 2008 (I may blog about this fully later because it is actually pretty funny. And gross. We’ll see) and my mom managed to contract a staph infection (she also needs to sue her dermatologist, but that is just my opinion) and she almost burned the house down on Wednesday (thank GOD my brother happened to have come home sick that day.) Speaking of the house that almost burned down, that is precisely where I am moving to next weekend (I am eternally thankful that it is still standing). Back to Vancouver I go, with two cats and an almost-born baby in tow. I just hope I can make it through the next 31 days.

I have been thinking about what sort of baby bag to buy for quite some time. Despite the fact that my mother informed me that I “don’t need” one (give me a break), I continued to think about it (please! like I am going to pass on a good reason to buy a new bag!). Bags are important to me. This couldn’t be just any purchase or just any diaper bag. NO. It has to match my outfits, fit the baby stuff, be convenient and useful…but I really didn’t want something that screams “diaper bag” either. There are a lot of ugly diaper bags out there. There are also a lot of EXPENSIVE diaper bags out there. I had to stop imagining myself owning the Coach Signature Stripe Patent Tote (in black!) because, let’s get real, I am not at a point in my life that I can rationalize a $400 bag purchase. Maybe someday. I had been anticipating payday for a while, pondering what sort of big purchase to make this month now that I don’t have to worry about a crib…new sunglasses? Pack and Play for the baby? Diaper bag? ALL THREE? That remains to be seen. Anyway, yesterday was payday, and I was having a bad morning. Coming up on a holiday weekend, no plans to be seen. All my friends made plans to go out of town and didn’t include me (thanks, friends!) and to make things worse, I actually WON tickets to see Maria Taylor at the Doug Fir this Saturday, and have no one to go with. Nobody wants to hang out with the pregnant girl. So, on the verge of a meltdown at work yesterday, and without Alana online to talk me down like normal, I decided to do some shopping to make myself feel better. I waked right over to Nordstrom, checked out the sunglasses (decided to wait for the sale), bought a couple of tops at BP (they fit!) and looked at sandals (my feet have grown! aaah!). On my way out, on a whim, I walked into handbags. I looked around for a while, and then stopped at a display of some marc by marc jacobs totes…and there it was. Not a baby bag, but usable as one. Nylon. Quilted. Black. Pretty. I put it on and it fit me perfectly, and I could wear it and have my hands completely free because of the long strap. Perfect for pushing a stroller. Anyway, I bought it. I love it. I am going to buy a diaper bag organizer kit to put inside (travel changing pad, some sort of bottle holder, etc..). And here it is:

After my exciting purchase (I was excited, the salesgirl was excited, we were all excited) I skipped out of Nordstrom and stopped by Baskin Robbins on the way back to the office and bought an Oreo Explosion Sundae (which was amazing) to top off my great lunch hour. A good time was had by all. Later that day, Alana finally got online and I told her my story. She promised to hang out with me this weekend (Me: I had to buy something because I was sad that everyone ditched me this weekend. Alana: I am staying in town. I could have saved you a lot of money!) but being Alana, could appreciate the purchase of an expensive bag. Sunday we are going to do our favorite activity: JB shopping (Jantzen Beach, for those of you not from the ’hood) and I plan to buy some diaper bag necessities. Happy weekend!

Week 25. Last night I googled “videos of childbirth.” BIG MISTAKE. As badly as I want this to be over, actually thinking about how it is really going to end doesn’t help the situation any. Today was beautiful and warm out. It was depressing. The weather is getting warmer and by the time summer hits, I will be well into my third trimester, and probably as miserable as ever. I have an entire summer ahead of me of doing nothing and not having fun ever. Nothing fits me in my closet anymore, and I couldn’t fit into a single thing at Forever 21 today. I haven’t really bought clothes from anywhere else in years. I don’t know where to buy maternity clothes that don’t TOTALLY SUCK. Everything at Mimi Maternity is really overpriced. The maternity section at Target is so bad it’s actually funny. The clothes are HUGE and boxy, with these obnoxious prints all over everything. NOTHING is long enough for me anywhere. It is time to get serious about maternity clothes shopping. I may be miserable, but I will be damned if I will look like some frumpy fat ass on top of it.

I bought my first items of maternity clothing yesterday at Mimi Maternity. I bought dress pants and maternity spanx. I am wearing both today and I LOVE THEM! I have been wearing the same jeans, dress or skirt for all of my outfits the past few weeks and it’s nice to have something new. The pants are really cute, despite the ELASTIC WAISTBAND (lol) and the spanx make my backpain go away. I might have to buy more of this stuff.

I also bought some new make-up at Estee Lauder and it has really made my week. The salesgirl at Nordstrom was very helpful and helped me pick out things that really work for me, instead of trying to sell me a bunch of crap I will never use (which happens a lot). For example, when I told her I don’t wear eye make-up, she actually didn’t put any on me or try to talk me into buying some. She was like, “oh yeah, you probably don’t need to since your eyelashes are so dark anyway.” THANK YOU! While I was there, I got a sample of the next fragrance I want to buy: Bronze Goddess by Estee Lauder. (Read about it here: http://thebeautyalchemist.blogspot.com/2008/02/bronze-goddess-fragrance-by-estee.html.) It’s perfect for summer and makes me excited for nice weather and going to the river in just a few months!
